Grapes Grown
Western Iowa has many climatic variances that dictate the varieties of grapes suitable for its vineyards. That's why you won't find many Chardonnays, Merlots, Pinot Noirs, Cabernets, and the like in this area.
Grape plantings in the Breezy Hills Vineyard are "cool climate" varietals specially developed for Mid-western vineyards. Varietals planted in our vineyard include St Croix, Frontenac, La Crosse, de Chaunac, Vignoles, and Edelweiss. Some of the other vineyards in our area also have plantings of Marechal Foch, Concord, and Seyval Blanc.
Cool climate varietals produce medium bodied wines with unique aromas and flavors that are quite delightful to the nose and palate.
